I have always been bad at regular updates to blogs! But today marks a big day in that I have finished something! Amusingly, it’s something I started relatively recently.
In January I started on the Alien Hunters supplement, what is basically an entire Codex. Unsurprisingly, this has taken me a very long time primarily because of art. Art is the slowest process because I have to physically spend the time painting, photographing, drawing, practicisng etc. I am not an artist, so it naturally takes a long time! I would say painting miniatures takes the longest, with photographing them well taking quite a long time too. I also have a job, so that’s slowed down progress a fair amount.
Saying that, the Alien Hunters book is about 95% of the way there. Mostly it is a few pictures that are needed by this point. There is about two-half pages and one full-page blank.
I have, similarly, made a huge amount of progress on updating Book I. While I planned to finish this some time ago, I have decided to use Affinity to make it a much better looking book and format it as if it was actually a book. This has taken me some time, but I’ve been able to tidy most of it. The last remaining job is to do all the missions and move away from the pre-set armies towards more flexible scenarios that allow players to use their own armies to represent the forces there.
So what have I actually finished?
The first is the Kaboomaz Index – a White Dwarf style article I started a few weeks back. As with everything, it was the art and photography that slowed this down but now it is done.
This was a good idea to delay as I’ve pretty much finished the Ork supplement. This was done for the upcoming Tigrus campaign in October – Zarrek currently working on an Admech codex to allow that faction to appear at the event. In making this, I’ve tried to add units old (Squig Catapults) and new (Hunta Rigs) to the book, as well as give ways to create your own custom clans and kulturs. While in the early days I was planning on making this a set to make your whole army from one clan, it’s evolved where your warlord is from the clan and their preferences impact what you take in your army.
It may seem a bonkers time to do an Ork supplement as there is a bunch of new Ork stuff about to be released. As with Votann (who are being moved out of the main book to their own supplement), it gives a lot of groundwork to build on when they do arrive. I have already broadly worked out how Orks will work, so hopefully it isn’t too much effort to put the new things in the supplement.
So while we’ve not really released much for some time, you can expect a few new things to be dropping over the next few weeks and – thank the Emperor – I can finally put Book I behind me and have a blank slate to move forward!
