Core Rules
35k is a setting, not a system. Players are welcome to play with any ruleset they like – whether those are official rules ranging from Warhammer 40k 2nd edition through 10th edition, or any other ruleset. Our project is to give story and space to your battles.
To facilitate games, we use Warhammer 40,000 5th edition as the basis. We do this for a few reasons:
- We feel that it captures the very narrative-oriented style of gaming that suits our setting.
- It captures the ‘middle ages’ of the game, which links with 35k being the middle ages of the modern Imperium.
In doing this, we have chosen to adjust some of the core rules of Warhammer 40,000 5th edition to remove and alter aspects that, in hindsight, were unpopular. Below you can find the most recent iteration of our core ruleset, which we have tried to keep to one sheet of paper so you can slide it into your rulebook.
We have opted to include recommended rule changes, which we design the rules around, and also some optional rule changes which are matters of taste which will likely vary on gaming group. Our events only use the recommended core rules.
